About us

Our partner prisons refer young adult offenders due for release into London. These young people have an interest in catering and are seeking a positive change in their lives.

We opened our doors in February 2008, since then we have been working intensively with a relatively small number of trainees.

An external evaluation of our Pilot Year confirmed that the Switchback programme is having a positive impact.

We are building a record of success in facilitating trainees achievements; from work placements, mock interviews and training courses to managing health problems, moving into stable housing and reducing contact with negative peer groups.

In the first two years of operation, 13 trainees started in permanent jobs and 6 passed the milestone of being in a job for more than three months.

Reoffending rates for Switchback trainees are significantly lower than average; only 10% were reconvicted in 2009.

"I am unable to believe the high level of care, support and professional response that the young person on my caseload has received from Switchback staff! Quite simply, amazing commitment!"
