SEASIDE AND SAUSAGES

24 May 2010

The wonderful team at River Cottage hosted us again last week for a trip to their HQ in Devon. The trainees made the leap of leaving the city and were even brave enough to jump in the sea when we got there!

We had an incredible day at Park Farm which included making sausages from scratch. Starting with feeding some similar pigs, we picked the sage from the garden, minced the meat by hand and made the links the traditional way. We finished the day cooking them up in a delicious casserole on the camping stove.

All this, plus seashore foraging, a night walk along the river and eating dozens of new things, we came home pretty exhausted!

CAMPFIRE'S BURNING

Switchback Trainees saw a different side of London this month when they went to cook lunch on a campfire in Epping Forest. Braving thunderstorms and damp sausages, HD and OT did a great job. They built the campfire, prepared vegetable kebabs, corn-on-the-cob and BBQ meat and finished off with roast chocolate bananas. They returned after their day in the urban wilderness soaked through but re-engerised.
