Why we are needed

Key Truth 1: More than 75% of young adult offenders are reconvicted within two years of release from prison; many are back inside within a few weeks. Most are determined not to return to prison but, once released, find they cannot succeed when left on their own with a 47 release grant and no clear plan for the future.

Key Truth 2: High recidivism has a financial as well as human impact; a re-offending former prisoner costs on average 65,000 to re-imprison and up to 100,000 a year to keep in custody.

Key Truth 3: There are many agencies that do excellent work in their specialist area. However, many ex-offenders lack the confidence, knowledge and continuity of support to realise their options.

The Switchback Solution
The hospitality sector accounts for 1 in 14 UK jobs. The roles are varied and often accessible to ex-offenders.

With constant support, trainees are able to get the help they need to make the fundamental changes that mean they can get a job and stick at it.
